A Dream is Born — Finding the Heartbeat of Africa

The Vision
This dream has been with me since I was a little girl — to give back to the people of South Africa and help bring hope and restoration to a hurting and broken world. I visit South Africa regularly to do outreaches with local pastors in townships, and over the past 6 years iKamoya foundation has helped hundreds of children with sponsoring feeding programs (especially during Corona time), and through the help of other sponsors, funded a small piece of land and a small community shack within the Skierlik informal settlement where children could go for Lunch and dinner, and get education and training and help with School work.
Our Mission
Through education, mentorship, and community-building programs,
iKamoya empowers children and young people from rural and impoverished areas
to discover their own unique destiny.
We focus on both practical and transformational growth — helping people tap into their potential, develop their gifts, and walk confidently into who they were created to be.
Special focus areas include:
The Arts. Entrepreneurship. Innovation.
Giving young people the tools to lead, create, and shape the world.
What “iKamoya” Means
The name iKamoya comes from a blend of two Zulu words:
- “iKa” — meaning of or belonging to
- “Moya” — meaning wind, breath, spirit, or even Divine Life Force
Together, it can be interpreted as:
“Belonging to the Spirit of the Divine” or “From the Breath of Life”
This name holds the heart of the foundation. It speaks of where we come from, who we belong to, and the divine calling on each of our lives. We believe everyone has a purpose — and our mission is to help people discover and walk boldly into that God-given destiny.
The Longer term Project Vision – A Living, Breathing Community
Over time, the dream grew into something more specific: a creative, spiritual, and empowering community in the rural area of Karkloof, right by the Indigenous rainforest.
A place where people — especially children and young people from rural areas — can find purpose, belonging, and step into their destiny.
Now, somehow (and truly, it feels like a miracle), the door has swung wide open for this dream to begin. I partly own a piece of land in this untouched area, surrounded by nature and deep culture. And with the unexpected support and momentum coming from some dear friends and a number of other charities and organisations, it seems like the bigger dream is possible to achieve!
Even the accountant who’s handling the legal setup has offered to do it all for free — just because the story and dream moved him.
I’m honestly blown away.
At the heart of iKamoya is the desire to restore, equip, and launch. The Foundation will serve as a creative, spiritual, and educational hub for local and global visitors — built in harmony with the surrounding Indigenous forest and community.
What We’re Dreaming of Building
On this land, part of the dream is to create:
- 🏡 Simple housing & a school for children from local rural areas
- 🛠 A Cajon-building workshop to create jobs and teach practical skills
- 🎙 An off-grid recording studio for global artists to retreat, create, and connect — with creative exchange programs that bridge cultures
- 🌄 A chapel on the hill — a sacred space for rest, prayer, and gathering
- 🌍 A self-sustaining village, living in harmony with the land
- 💫 And most importantly — mentorship & training to help young people discover their purpose and thrive
Where Things Are Now
Here’s where we’re at:
- ✅ The land is there and I plan to visit South Africa and do many outreaches to learn
- ✅ The vision is alive and growing
- ✅ The official non-profit registration is in progress
- 💸 There’s no funding yet — just wild faith, favour, and forward motion
- 🌍 The network is growing fast, and the momentum is real
Call for Founding Directors
I’m putting together the founding team — people who are ready to co-dream and co-create something deeply meaningful.
If this speaks to you, or if any of this sounds like your kind of calling:
- You care about youth, education, creativity, or rural upliftment
- You have experience in non-profits, sustainability, the arts, education, strategy, finance, or social impact
- You’ve always wanted to help build something real, rooted, and transformative
- You just feel a big YES in your spirit reading this
I’d love to connect.
Let’s See What Grows
“If the door of opportunity swings wide open, one must simply walk through it without looking back.”
iKamoya isn’t just an organisation. It’s a movement — born of the Spirit, built in Faith, and rooted in the belief that lives and communities can be transformed.
There is no funding yet. There is no roadmap.
But there is land, there is favour, and there is a calling.
This is a wild walk of faith. I don’t have all the answers, but I do know the door has opened — and I’m walking through it.
If this speaks to you, let’s talk, leave a comment down below or get in touch!
With love & wild hope,
Heidi Joubert
