NEW online cajon school

skypecajonschoollogoSo this is the year that I will officially start up my long awaited online Cajon School.

I have had so many requests from all over the world to start this up, and I am so happy that I have enough free time in my schedule to get this going!

The online school will kick off with 2 classes a week at different times, one to accommodate EU time zone and the other to accommodate countries with a different time Zone like the USA.

There is a limited amount of space in each class so make sure you register for your space in the class as soon as possible. We aim to start up the classes within the next 2 – 3 weeks, we will commence once we have enough students enrolled to make the classes viable.

Course information:

During the first 5 week course, we will look at the fundamentals of the cajon, such as the correct technique and hand stroke position, posture, different sounds etc.

We will learn a few very useful ex and techniques that you will keep with you for life and learn a range of cool grooves from different musical genres.

We will also look at how to apply our new grooves to a musical setting with other instruments and musicians.

Get feedback from Heidi as you progress during the lessons and share what you learn with other cajon players around the world.

Be part of our cajonbox family!

It is advisable that you enrol for the entire course to take full advantage of the classes.
If you drop in or miss a class during the course, it would be your responsibility to catch up to the rest of the group.

What you would need

You would need access to the internet, a webcamera and a web microphone. No previous musical or cajon experience needed! Of course having a cajon would be important, but you don’t need one to start, remember that the cajon is just a box and if you can somehow simulate one, then by all means, don’t let the fact that you don’t have a cajon stop you from learning, after all, it’s more about getting your hands used to the technique as a beginner. Good manners is also essential for joining the classes, anyone who is disruptive or disrespectful will be asked to leave the ‘classroom’:-)

Please note that all details on this course is subject to change.
The courses will only proceed if there is a minimum amount of students enrolled to each course.

I so can’t wait for the online courses. That is such a good idea. Just wanted to say that I’ve always wanted to play the cajon since 2009 when I first heard about them, but coming across one of your videos a few months ago actually made me go out and buy one. Been playing hip-hop grooves and now want to learn even more because you make it seem easy to learn them the way you teach it. So, from Sacramento, CA in the US I’m ready. Have you thought about recording the sessions and posting them or something? Just a thought.

Really interested in the online classes. I have never played percussion instruments but had a fasination after I heard a band with a Cajon drum. Bought one and immediatley began playing. I am fortunate to have good friends in bands and they have been inviting me to play with them every Wed and Sun. LOVE IT but really want to learn to be able to play better. Thank you!

    Heidi,
Hi, I’ve been playing cajon for about a year, i live in the u.s and where i’m located their are no cajon players to practice with. Would like to take skype lessons. Need to work on my rolls, my rolls are awlful. Maybe you’ll have some advice on perfecting the heel-toe technique on the cajon. I’m also intrested in buying a cajodoo. Which one do you think is the most useful?
    Love your music!!!

Hi Heidi I am very interested in Cajon lessons on line keep me posted.
I have been playing Cajon very badly for about a year now and was a singer in a Christian worship band and we needed a drummer because ours left and I tried the Cajon which fits I think better acoustically than a drum set, I am just about keeping up need to get more patterns under my belt.
    Thanks

I’ll be 85 years old in June and have been playing Congas and Bongos for around 10 years. Started playing the Cajon (or trying to) about a month ago and find it a great instrument. I’m having trouble though notating your Bossa Nova heel strokes and wonder if you can tell me whether there are two beats between each pair of heel strokes or one. I assume you start the pattern with one heel stroke and then follow with pairs, with the cycle ending on one heel stroke. Hopefully I’m making myself clear. I’m also interested in your Skype lessons. I live in Nehalem, Oregon in the U.S. and wonder how your will handle the difference in time.
Thank you sincerely for sharing your expertise.
    Peace,
    Chuck

thanks for the comment. Yes you start with 1 beat on the bass, just like you say! 🙂 I will be posting up a video on how to do this rhythms with just the hands, it might be easier to do! As per online lessons, I am in the final planning stages so if you are interested, you should send me an email so I can send you a from that will help me to find the right time and day for doing these classes, hope that makes sense!
